Today's Show

We've got a show full of basketball talk today, as Daniel and Justin discuss the NBA's newest star, Jeremy Lin, and whether or not he should be compared to Tim Tebow, (something that many sports personalities have been doing this week), Daniel thinks he has a different NBA player who's story has a lot more similarities!
Our hosts then discuss the recent post-season action from our local highschool basketball teams. Can the Hoquiam boys recover from their first round loss against the Ridgeline Spudders and beat Tenino to keep their post-season hopes alive?

In today's Overtime Podcast, Daniel and Justin start out with an in depth discussion of the upcoming Seattle Mariners season. Make sure you listen in to hear their projected starting lineups, and what they foresee this year for our beloved M's!
Then we launch into a discussion of the NBA All-Star game and talk about what exactly qualifies a player as an "All-Star". Should it be a purely statistical honor or should it be a popularity contest?

Gronk's after-party with LMFAO

E're Day He's Shufflin'

Apparently the Patriots' record breaking tight end, Rob Gronkowski, wasn't too hurt to demonstrate his "shuffle" onstage with LMFAO at the Patriots' after Super Bowl gathering:

Mike Golic and Mike Greenburg discussed the propriety of the behavior on their ESPN Radio show this morning. Golic strongly defended the right of players to let loose after a record setting season regardless of the outcome of the final game.

NBA and NHL Teams in Seattle?

Could Seattle become the home of NBA and NHL franchises?

We talked about this briefly in this morning's show, and it could happen as soon as next year according to an article published Friday morning in the Seattle Times:
A wealthy San Francisco hedge-fund manager and officials in the Seattle mayor's office have been working behind the scenes for eight months to bring an NBA team back to the city as early as next fall and build a new arena...
the city has been following developments in Sacramento, which is under a March 1 deadline to come up with a viable proposal to build an arena for the Sacramento Kings. ...If Sacramento fails, the Kings could be playing in Seattle next fall if the city and Hansen reach an agreement, according to a Seattle City Hall source who has been briefed on the matter.
In addition, National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman has expressed a strong interest in placing a team in Seattle, leading to widespread speculation that the financially struggling Phoenix Coyotes could be moved here.
Nick Eaton from seattlepi.com posted a good analysis of the story.

Our Overtime Podcast is an absolute blast this week!

Justin starts off the show by bringing up some compelling points regarding similarities between Tim Tebow and Justin Bieber. Crazy Comeback in the Hoosier State

The sports world is buzzing today with the story of a 1 and 10 high school boy's basketball team making a 30 point run with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter to beat their opponents by a single point.

They were down by 29 points in the fourth quarter when they shifted to a five-guard, full court press, and they suddenly caught fire, putting down 30 straight points while their opponents went 0 - 5 from the free throw line.

The Class 3A team hails from Aurora, Indiana, and, under first year head coach, Rick Shumate, they had only one win this season, previous to last night. In their last meeting with East Central this season they lost 72 to 39.

The 29 point come from behind victory sets a state record for Indiana.

Our 40th Show!

Two high-flying offenses have moved on to Superbowl 46 this weekend, with the Patriots beating out the Ravens on a missed Baltimore field goal, and the Giants coming out on top down in San Fransisco on a fumbled punt in overtime!
In this morning’s show Daniel and Justin break down the weekend's championship games, make their Superbowl predictions, name the biggest goat of the weekend, and then discuss the current state of the NBA, including the injury status of Dwyane ‘Dwade’ Wade and its effect on the Heat. Is Miami really better off without him?

In our Overtime Podcast this week we start out with an awesome song by Justin and his wife, Angel, wherein they attempt to clarify Justin's feelings for Tom Brady. Then Daniel and Justin discuss the sports players that they love to hate, and Daniel keeps trying to talk about Tim Tebow!

Are the Heat better without Wade? It's all about LBJ..

For those of you who haven't been paying attention, this question has come up because after defeating the 76ers today the Heat are now 6-0 this season without Dwayne Wade in the starting lineup, and 5-4 with him.

I'm going to do something a little bit different than usual here. Normally I would be stuffing this blog with stats to prove my point. I'll use some stats,  but today I'm mostly going to speak from my heart. I couldn't do that with just any topic, but this one is special to me.

It has been mentioned multiple times on air by my co host, Daniel, that I am a bit of a LeBron homer. It's interesting that I got to that point considering I was never a Heat fan before last season, and I liked LeBron with the Cavs, but didn't love him. In fact, I am probably more of a homer about King James than I am about any other player, even from my beloved Tar Heels and Titans.

Andrew's Fantasy Challenge Picks

We here at The Scrimmage are participating in a little NFL Fantasy Playoff Challenge league. Currently I'm in the lead with 370 points, Daniel is in second place with 333, and Justin is coming in last with a score of 324. Unfortunately, the demise of the high-flying New Orleans Saints has left all three of us with drastically reduced starting lineups, forcing a near total overhaul of our strategy. I have been obsessing over this for the last several days, and I've decided to write this blog post as a way of making myself feel better about my picks.

The Playoff Challenge is a fun little "mini fantasy" game, where the challenge is basically to select the best overall lineup over the course of the NFL Playoffs. Each person can select their roster from the full list of eligible players, and each week you play a player in a row adds a multiplier to their total score for that week. This twist has the effect of making each team's long term prospects even more important than individual team and player match ups. Every week you select 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, a kicker, and a defense from the eligible list of players/defenses still left in the playoffs.

Here is a breakdown of my choices this week and their rational, if any:

A San Francisco Story

The San Francisco 49ers have been doubted all year long, and no one more than their quarterback, Alex Smith.

Smith who was the first overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft has been deemed a bust, a disappointment and a failure. He and his team have not been successful since he has been in the league.

He has been through many head coaches, coordinators, and position coaches, many of whom did not have faith in his play. But now with Head Coach Jim Harbough, Smith has succeeded.

After being benched multiple times in his career, including last season, many people thought that the Niners would definitely go a different direction last off-season. They did not.

Payton Retiring? Not Yet!

Actor Rob Lowe, a Colts fan, has caused a stir today by twitting that he was "Hearing my fave, #18 Peyton Manning will not return to #NFL."

NFL.com has a story on the unfolding rumorfest, and it's worth noting that when NFL.com insider Jason La Canfora contacted Manning's agent, Tom Condon, he said that it "was first he'd heard of it and said if Manning was retiring it was news to him."

Undoubtedly (hopefully) this is some strange ploy for attention on the part of Lowe, but I think the amount of stir caused by the incident shows just how many people are desperate for information on the future of the great quarterback.
(who should totally be MVP this year, just saying)

Today's Show

Well, week 2 of the NFL Playoffs has come and gone, and we at the Scrimmage are here early Monday morning to get you caught up on what happened in the four divisional championships that were decided this week.
Today we catch you up on those games (hint: a certain train missed the station) and give you a preview of what lies ahead for this weekend's winners!
In the Two Minute Drill, Daniel gives his response to Aberdeen High School's vacating of the Evergreen Conference in football, and Justin tells us what he thinks of Oregon quarterback Darren Thomas' decision to enter the NFL Draft.
We round the show off with a preview of the College Rugby season with Daniel's old teammate, Cody Secker, and a good old fashioned argument over Daniel's overreaction to the Mariner's recent roster move!
